Police Warn of Attempted Abduction in Altoona

ALTOONA, Iowa — Altoona police are stepping up patrols around elementary schools after children reported an attempted abduction.

It happened Tuesday near the corner of 5th Avenue Southwest and 3rd Street Southwest. Two children walking home from school told police they were approached by two white men in a white, older pickup – possibly an S-10 or Ford Ranger.

The driver had brown hair, a goatee, and was wearing a black hat. The passenger had brown hair and was wearing a hat.

The children said the men asked them if they wanted some candy and a ride.

Parents are being asked to talk to their kids about safety and to call police if they notice anything out of the ordinary.
