DES MOINES, Iowa - Last Thursday, Channel 13's Erin Kiernan and her husband, Michael, welcomed their son to the world ... and they were fairly certain they were going to have a girl.
"We were so convinced it was going to be a girl that we have yet to decide on a boy's name," Michael told us on Thursday.
On Monday, they revealed his name: Michael Francis Kiernan. The meaning behind the first name is obvious. The middle name is tied to a few beloved family members.
The Kiernans acknowledged the delay in making the name official. Both strongly suspected the baby would be a girl. They joked, “If (the hospital staff) hadn’t required us to name him before we left, he probably still wouldn’t have a name!”
Mother, father, and son are now adjusting to their new life at home.
Erin described the experience thus far, “It’s like you don’t comprehend how big your heart can get, and your capacity for loving and wanting to take care of another person.” The Kiernans expressed their gratitude to everyone who congratulated them on the birth of their son.
