DES MOINES, Iowa – The Des Moines International Airport is adding new flights to St. Louis, but they come at the expense of another destination.

The airport announced Tuesday Southwest Airlines will begin twice daily flights to St. Louis in April. According to the airport it will give travelers more connectivity to 21 of Des Moines’ top 25 destinations served by Southwest.

The addition of the flights is a double-edge sword, with Southwest saying it will end service to Chicago Midway once the flights to St. Louis begin.

Executive Director Kevin Foley said,” We will continue to work with Southwest Airlines as they optimize their route structure.”
