CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Northern Iowa pulled off what will likely be the biggest upset of the season in college basketball.

The Panthers defeated perennial powerhouse, No. 1 North Carolina in Cedar Falls 71-67 on Saturday. Wes Washpun’s 21 points and eight assists, and Matt Bohannon’s 19 points and six rebounds led the way for Northern Iowa.

UNI was down 50-34 when they went on a 20-4 run to tie the game at 54. One of four Bohannon three-pointers gave the Panthers the lead with 7:35 left in the game. The Tar Heels never held the scoring advantage again.

A Jeremy Morgan steal and free throws with 6 seconds left in the game sealed the huge win for the Panthers.
