DES MOINES, Iowa -- "We`ve been around here for quite some time, and that`s about the first time that we had a murder like this," said Bob Clark, a man that's lived in the neighborhood for 41 years.
Shortly before 3 p.m. on Monday, Des Moines Police were dispatched to the house at 3918 Center Street to investigate a possible shooting.
"Somebody happened upon the scene and called the police, and I`m sure you heard the radio traffic, that somebody had been shot and there was a lot of blood, and when we arrived, what we found are two people deceased in the home," said Public Information Officer Sergeant Paul Parizek.
A man and a woman could be seen leaving the house, as investigators were on scene. Police described the two people that exited the house as witnesses that they needed to talk to. There were also two small children in the home, that were covered with towels and removed from the house by police. "There were two children in the home, but they are going to be fine. They are being taken up to the hospital to be checked out, but they didn't have any obvious injuries on them," said Sgt. Parizek.
Those who live nearby describe the neighborhood as quiet and safe. "...we moved over here in '62 and this has been a wonderful neighborhood...but I`ve always felt so safe," said neighbor Lila Walker. "I`ve been here three years now, and it`s a very pleasant neighborhood, and yeah it` s just tragic to know that something like this went down, anywhere, I mean these kinds of things can happen anywhere," said neighbor John Bush.
