Former Casey City Clerk in Federal Court Monday on Fraud, Arson Charges

DES MOINES, Iowa — A former city clerk accused of torching a building to cover up the theft of taxpayer money is scheduled to be in federal court Monday.

Dorothy Dillinger is facing five counts of mail fraud and one count of malicious use of fire.

Investigators say she spent nearly $300,000 using a city credit card then set city hall on fire. The night before the State Auditor’s Office was set to begin an investigation into the matter. The fire destroyed the city’s financial records.

She’ll make her initial appearance in federal court at 2:00 p.m.
