DES MOINES, Iowa -- Police are investigating an incident Sunday night that resulted in a man being shot twice.

Police were called to the 2800 block of Cottage Grove shortly after 11:00 p.m. Sunday on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived they found 41-year-old Charles Shur suffering from two gunshot wounds, one in the chest and one in the leg.

Shur told officers two males followed him and a friend home from the Walgreens at 3030 University and tried to rob him. He says the suspects did not get anything from him and then shot him.

He told police he didn’t know who the two men were.

Police searched Shur’s apartment at 2905 Cottage Grove as part of the investigation.

Shur was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be okay.

The incident prompted a Drake Bulldog Alert. That's when Drake University sends out alerts to students living nearby.
