DES MOINES, Iowa -- Fetch Pet Care will partner with The Pet Project Midwest to host the first annual Santa Paws charity event. All the proceeds of the event will go directly to funding the Pet Project Midwest.
“We’ve raised many pets ourselves and it’s a passion for us,” said Eric Culp, owner of Fetch Pet Care. “We want to keep pets in their homes.”
Culp and his wife, Lorrie, are the duo that travels as "Santa in Des Moines.”
Photos can be taken with children or pets, and each photo will be $10. The proceeds benefit The Pet Project Midwest. They will also donate an additional $5 if you are a client of Fetch Pet Care.
“That $10 donation will feed a cat for up to a month,” said Kitte Noble, The Pet Project Midwest.
“We are doing a bigger push this holiday season to adopt families because the need is there,” said Noble. “We have four programs here that help families feed their pets. One of them is month pet pantry. For that month that kitty won’t go hungry.”
Noble knows that this time of year people can be more charitable but she hopes that the giving doesn’t stop when December does.
“We always need food,” said Noble. “While we encourage people a little more now, it’s a battle year round. There are pets that are always being surrendered because families can’t afford to feed themselves and their pets.”
Culp said that the typical crowd for pictures is usually cats and dogs but not always.
“I’ve taken pictures with ferrets, possums, and snakes,” said Culp. “Just bring them down and we will make it work.”
Culp reminds us that Santa loves pets. We all know about the Reindeer but he his fondness stretches further than that.
“We have Huskies,” said Culp.
