ALGONA, Iowa -- Sometime late Thanksgiving night a farmer from the Titonka area was found near his truck on a gravel road.

Gerald Dale Dreesman, 63, of Titonka was found deceased, about 2.5 miles from his home.

Sometime late Thanksgiving night he was traveling on 200th Street, when his vehicle entered a ditch and became stuck. He exited his 1999 Ford F-150 but did not take his cell phone. He was found beside his vehicle.

Investigators say it was possibly hours before he was found by a family member, and that exposure could have contributed to his death.

"We believe your best chances of survival are to stay in your vehicle, that's going to offer the most protection," said Sheriff Steve Kollasch. "Make sure you have gasoline in your vehicle, and not drive, especially in bad weather, if it's not necessary."

The incident is not considered suspicious. Anyone with any information on this can call the Kossuth County Sheriff's Office 515-295-3514.
