Man Survives Attempted Suicide in Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE, Iowa — A man survived a fall from a bridge after attempting suicide on Saturday morning.

According to the Fort Dodge Police Department, officers received a report a a male standing in the middle of the Great Northwestern Train Trestle at approximately 8:45 a.m.

As officers approached the male, his intentions were immediately known and he threatened to jump from the bridge. After about four hours of communication, officers were initially able to persuade the subject to come off the bridge.

However, he suddenly lunged away from officers and jumped off the north side of the bridge. Two officers were able to grab a hold of one leg, before he ultimately fell about 40 feet to the tracks beneath him, according to police.

The male survived the fall but his status or extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.
