Military families from Iowa flew to Texas for free on Saturday in order to make memories while remembering the loved ones they’ve lost.

The Snowball Express flies children and spouses of fallen soldiers to Dallas every December. The organization plans five day events for military families who lost their parent while on active duty.

American Airlines also provides free airfare for children and family members.

Kayla Jaenke started participating in Snowball Express since she was 9-years-old when her mother, a naval officer, died in Iraq in 2006.

"It's pretty nice to know that there's a lot of people out there that care about us and that they put the time and effort in making sure we have a good trip,” Jaenke said.
