DES MOINES, Iowa — The YMCA of Greater Des Moines now has a new plan to pay for the completion of a downtown project.

The Wellmark YMCA is up and running but still needs $9 million to finish one of its most-anticipated features — its aquatic center. Backers have struck out twice in getting federal grants to cover the cost.

The Des Moines Register reports the YMCA now has a six-part plan to get the money needed to complete the project. It includes getting $500,000 each from the city of Des Moines and Polk County, and another $750,000 from the state of Iowa.

The rest of the money will come from refinancing debt and corporate and private donations.
