WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — West Des Moines students will see some changes in the district’s foreign language offerings.

The district wants to trim its budget by nearly $600,000 for the upcoming school year.

Monday night, the Board of Education approved more than a dozen ways to do so. They include phasing out the Japanese program and starting Spanish education in fourth grade instead of first grade.

The cuts are a result of declining enrollment in the district.
