IOWA CITY, Iowa — A state engineer fired for giving female coworkers sexually inappropriate gifts last year is getting his job back and $173,000 in back pay.

Bruce Flippin, 52, was fired from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in January 2014 after giving two female employees homemade buttons. The women complained, calling the “gifts” offensive because they contained sexual innuendos.

Flippin appealed his termination, and the Des Moines Register reports that a judge has ruled that his termination was not justified, regardless of his violation of DNR rules.

Flippin will be reinstated to his $91,000-job on Monday.
