DES MOINES, Iowa -- Des Moines police say a 15-year-old has been charged with shooting another 15-year-old inside a residence in the 1300 block of East 14th Street Thursday afternoon.

Des Moines police were dispatched to a local hospital around 1:30 p.m. to investigate a report of a shooting victim. Officers say a citizen drove the juvenile victim to the hospital after being shot in the chest.

Some witnesses originally told officers the victim came to the residence already injured and asked to be taken to the hospital. Police later concluded that the teen was shot inside the home.

After interviewing witnesses at the home and processing evidence at the scene, officers arrested the 15-year-old suspect and charged him with reckless use of a firearm.

The 15-year-old victim is still in the hospital but is expected to survive.
