DES MOINES, Iowa -- It was announced Thursday that the president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines has resigned.
The Board of Directors said it has accepted Vernon Delpesce’s resignation effective immediately and that a nationwide search is now ongoing.
Wade Riedinger, the YMCA's current senior vice president and COO, has been appointed as acting president and CEO, the YMCA said in a press release.
YMCA executive board member David Stark said the YMCA is thankful for Delpesce’s service and that his work has put the YMCA in a place that’s ready to get to the next level.
“We have a lot of things that we’re working on at the Y, a lot of issues that have been out there in the public that we're going to continue to work on,” Stark said. “The decision was for new leadership to take the Y moving forward to take us to even greater heights.”
Stark said they are still in the process of raising money to complete the Olympic-sized pool and that is the YMCA’s main focus.
Funding obstacles have stumped plans to finish the pool, one of the YMCA's most anticipated features.
