IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Iowa guard Mike Gesell was honored by the Big Ten Conference on Monday.
The senior was named Big Ten Player of the Week after his strong performance in the Hawkeyes' 77-66 win over Nebraska on Jan 5. He posted his first career double-double with 22 points and 10 assists. Gesell also matched career highs in both free throws made (11) and attempted (13).
In the deciding second half, Gesell scored 19 of his 22 points and recorded seven of his 10 assists.
The guard has been a key player in Iowa's 12-3 start to the year.
The No. 16 Hawkeyes head to East Lansing to face No. 4 Michigan State on Thursday.
