AMES, Iowa — Students at Iowa State University are getting ready for a long night ahead.

The university’s Dance Marathon weekend kicks off Friday night.

The event is a celebration of the fundraising students do year-round to support the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital. Students qualify to party the night away by raising at least $250 for the Dance Marathon.

During the event participants play games, meet some of the kids their donations benefit, listen to music, and – of course – dance. There are two 12-hour sessions for the fundraisers.

Last year the organization raised $444,000. Since the beginning of the Iowa State Dance Marathon, $2.7 million has been raised for the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.
