GRUNDY CENTER, Iowa — Authorities are investigating an inmate’s suicide at the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say 26-year-old Jared Martin Slinker, of Wellsburg, was found unresponsive in his jail cell around 9 p.m. Thursday. An autopsy conducted Friday “determined the death to be suicide by hanging,” the Iowa Department of Public safety said.

Slinker was arrested Tuesday on an arrest warrant for contempt of court regarding a child endangerment charge.

Toxicology results are pending.
