DES MOINES, Iowa — It’s the news fans of Vietnamese restaurant A Dong have been waiting to hear for six months.

The restaurant announced on social media Wednesday it plans to reopen Thursday between 4 and 8 p.m.

Owner Neal Ngu told the Des Moines Register he will be giving away free food during that time Thursday. Regular lunch and dinner hours will resume Friday.

A fire broke out last August, destroying the kitchen and heavily damaging the rest of the building. Ngu said he first hoped to reopen the restaurant around Thanksgiving, but cleanup, remodeling and state inspections pushed the grand reopening back until now.
