ANKENY, IOWA — The weather didn’t just affect the roads, high winds knocked out power to several areas in central Iowa.

Alliant Energy customers in the Boone area lost power around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. Officials say icing of the utility lines and strong winds caused the outage. They hope to have power restored some time Wednesday morning. There were about 400 customers without power as of 6:40 a.m.

More than 800 Grundy County Alliant Energy customers lost power at 6:00 a.m. and crews are still working to determine why the power went out.

MidAmerican Energy was called out to restore power to more than 1,370 customers in Ankeny Wednesday but say the outage was not weather-related. Officials say the outages were because of an underground power line that needed to be repaired.

Crews were able to get the power back on shortly after 5:10 a.m.
