Missouri Trooper Waives Arraignment in Brandon Ellingson’s Drowning

A Missouri State trooper charged in the death of 20-year-old Brandon Ellingson waived his arraignment Thursday.

Anthony Piercy, 44, appeared in court Thursday in Morgan County, Missouri. Piercy is charged with involuntary manslaughter after Ellingson drowned in Piercy’s custody in May 2014.

Piercy arrested the 20-year-old on suspicion he was boating while intoxicated. Ellingson was handcuffed when he fell from the patrol boat.

Under Missouri law, Piercy faces seven years in prison and a fine of $5,000.
