Car Flips Upside Down After Blowing Through Stop Sign, Striking SUV

URBANDALE, Iowa -- A driver has been hospitalized after police say his far flipped after hitting an SUV.

The accident happened around 11:46 a.m. Thursday in the 4100 block of 66th Street in Urbandale, near Prairie Avenue.

Urbandale Police Sgt. Gary Lang said a small silver car was headed eastbound on Prairie Avenue at a high rate of speed when it went through a stop sign and hit a southbound SUV. The car ended up on its top in the front yard of a nearby home.

The driver of the silver car was pulled from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital. His name and condition have not been released.

The driver of the SUV was not seriously injured and was treated at the scene.

Lang said authorities are still investigating the crash and trying to determine why the man was speeding.
