MOLINE, Illinois -- The Special Olympics basketball team at Moline High School is on its way to the state championship.
This is the second year in a row the team will advance to state, but for most players this is only their first year on the team.
Everyone associated with the team says it's all about coming together for the love of the game and each other.
"This gives them other opportunities to compete, to learn how to be on a team and to gain confidence," Dakotah Gardner said. "And also, learn athletic skills beyond just the Special Olympics competition."
Moline's Special Olympics basketball team won 61-30 on Saturday and will play in the state competition on March 11 and 12 at Illinois State University.
