WEST DES MOINES, Iowa -- A popular donut shop is closing down to make way for new development in West Des Moines.

Lou King owns the Donut King on Grand Avenue. His building was purchased by a developer.

At the end of the month, King will close his store to make way for new businesses.

“I’m not ready to retire yet. The problem is just finding a place that's reasonably close to here that we can make work,” said King.

He's owned the Donut King since 1973, and he said he’s built a loyal customer base over time. King also said he's been blown away by the support of the community.

The Donut King will close for good on March 20.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help King set up shop somewhere else.
