DES MOINES, Iowa — A man who led Des Moines police on a chase Thursday night is now behind bars in the Polk County Jail.

Forty-six-year-old Michael Field is facing charges of eluding, felon in possession of a firearm, driving while barred, and several traffic violations.

Police say the chase started just after 9:30 p.m. at East 19th and Grand when officers tried to pull Field over on an outstanding warrant. Field took off and at one point officers terminated the pursuit because he was driving too recklessly.

Police caught up with Field in the 3600 block of Kinsey Avenue after he crashed his van into a tree and tried to run off.

Field was not injured in the crash.
