WARREN COUNTY, Iowa — One person was killed in an accident in Warren County Monday night on Highway 65/69.

The Iowa State Patrol says 22-year-old Dylan Watson of Menlo died in the crash.

The accident happened around 9:00 p.m. just north of Indianola. Sgt. Nathan Ludwig with the Iowa State Patrol says a northbound semi on Highway 65/69 was trying to make a U-turn into the southbound lanes using the crossover, but the trailer was still jutting out on northbound 65/69 when a pickup truck struck it.

Officials believe Watson, the driver of the pickup truck, was not able to see the semi’s trailer before he struck it. The truck ended up wedged underneath the trailer.

Watson was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was not injured in the crash.

Part of the highway was shut down while crews cleared the scene of wreckage.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and the Indianola Police Department.  The Iowa State Patrol says it plans to consult with the Warren County Attorney’s Office on whether charges should be filed in the case.
