DES MOINES, Iowa - March Madness meets St. Patrick's Day Thursday in Des Moines, and there's an event at Cowles Commons that seeks to deliver the perfect combination of celebrations.

Hoops and Hops at Cowles Commons will feature the Iowa Craft Beer Tent, a slew of food trucks, eight big-screen TVs showing the NCAA Tournament games, and some half-court basketball challenges. Organizers call this the "place to be" if you're looking to get in on the March Madness action without buying a ticket to the game.

"We'll have eight TVs inside the tent - the Iowa Craft Beer Tent - and we'll be showing games all day and all night," said Dave Diers, an organizer. "So, people can come down here and interact with the people from Kentucky, Indiana, Stony Brook, UT Chattanooga, the Hoosiers. So, we're excited about it, and I think people from Des Moines will really enjoy coming down and showing what type of people we are to other folks from around the country."

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday-Saturday at Cowles Commons.
