DES MOINES, Iowa — A move to come down harder on peeping toms is now headed to Gov. Terry Branstad’s desk.

Senators unanimously passed a bill Wednesday that would make it a criminal offense to secretly watch or record another person while they are in private. Senate File 2185 makes the offense an aggravated misdemeanor.

The current law only applies if the person is nude or partially nude and the peeper is aroused.

The new legislation also clarifies language about digital recordings made in privacy invasion cases.
