GENEVA, Iowa -- Over the weekend vandals smashed windows in the old Geneva School Gym.

The gym has been a project of the Geneva Betterment Association to restore the building for use in community events. Antique chalk blackboards were also damaged at the building.

The Geneva Betterment Association has been holding “The Geneva Market” selling antiques, vintage junk, and hand crafted items. The group had raised enough money to already have put a roof on part of the old gym, and another old bus barn near by.

Plans were to spend $50,000 on a roof for the main part of the old gym. That plan is now up in the air.

Organizers say they know who did the vandalism, but the investigation is now in the hands of officials to prosecute.

The group holds two “Geneva Markets” per year, and plans are still in place for another market coming the first weekend in May.
