WAUKEE, Iowa -- Waukee High School has turned into a statewide power in seemingly every sport, including girls' track, which ranks near the top of the list.

"Being a part of the Waukee team, it's not always about winning," Talia Buss said. "I mean, that's obviously what we strive for but we're a team united in purpose, not by purpose. It's a lot of fun that these girls are all like my family."

The Warriors have another strong team and will contend for a state championship in May.

Waukee finished fourth last year at state and sixth in 2014 but won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013.

They possess a lot of talent and they want back on top of the podium.

"You definitely have to go in with the right mindset," Elma Vojic said. "If you go in with a negative attitude, you're not going to perform as well as you want to."
