Man Arrested for Allegedly Stabbing Brother

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police are investigating an early morning stabbing.

It happened just after 2:30 Thursday morning in the 1700 block of Southeast First Street. Police found 31-year-old Jeremy Gardner suffering from a stab wound to the stomach. Gardner told them his brother, 22-year-old Paul Palmer, stabbed him during a fight.

Shortly after the stabbing, police pulled over a car at East 15th where it goes under Interstate 235. Palmer was a passenger in the vehicle and was taken into police custody. He told police another man stabbed his brother, and he had volunteered to take the blame because “he felt bad” for him.

Gardner’s injuries are considered serious but he is expected to survive.

Palmer has been charged with willful injury causing serious injury. He is being held in the Polk County Jail.
