DES MOINES, Iowa -- Emails can be annoying, but they can also be a good reminder for those of us who talk for a living.

Last Sunday, Dave Price did a segment on that huge sinkhole that swallowed part of a Des Moines man's yard.

That house was built on top of an old coal mine, and the sinkhole looks like it happened over the mine shaft. When he mentioned how Iowa’s coal industry has disappeared, he said that the coal had been considered toxic.

Afterward, he got an email from someone named Eric:

"Dave price wrote that Iowa coal was 'toxic.'

Who made this claim or did Dave just make it up?

In a literal sense, coal is toxic if you eat it. But of course, that's not the reason the industry disappeared here.

Just to name a few, Iowa lost business to other states such as Illinois. As for coal, people found other energy alternatives.

“Thanks to Eric, for reminding me to be more careful with my words. Brevity isn't always best,” Price said.
