AMES, Iowa - The Ames Police Department has recently taken 34 reports of car windows being shot out with BB guns in a spree of vandalism that has occurred across the town.

Police Sergeant Christine Crippen says this is the biggest case of BB gun vandalism she has seen.

"I know earlier in the spring we had a report where there were quite a few cars, but it was probably only about six," Sgt. Crippen said. "So 34, yeah that`s a big amount right now."

The incidents were first reported on the northwest side of town near Florida Avenue, but since the reports kept coming in, there were several cars hit in the Southdale neighborhood.

Crippen says with $10,000 worth of damage, this is more than just some prank.

"With that dollar amount, it`s going to be a serious charge so I would rethink that and depending on how old they are, I mean, you could end up in adult court," Sgt. Crippen said.

Police believe two juvenile suspects may be responsible but haven't announced any arrests.
