DES MOINES, Iowa – It’s officially Drake Relays week which means the best runners in the state from all classes go head to head at Drake Stadium.

One of those runners is Dianna Slight of Boone. The junior is currently ranked No. 1 in Class 3A in the 100, 200, 400 and long jump.

“She’s one of the top competitors I’ve ever seen, not just coached,” said Scott Kiesel, Boone Girls Track Coach. “Dianna doesn’t have the word quit in her vocabulary.”

Slight is the defending state champ in the 400 and has a chance to go down as one of the most decorated sprinters in Iowa history.

“At the beginning of my high school career, I was more distance oriented,” Slight said. “Then, I started weight lifting and got stronger, and that really helped with my sprinting.”

The Relays start Tuesday with the Grand Blue Mile downtown. High school runners compete at Drake on Friday and Saturday.
