Governor’s LGBTQ Youth Conference Monday

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The 11th Annual Iowa Governor’s Conference on LGBTQ Youth is being held Monday in downtown Des Moines.

It's designed to address the issues facing young lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning Iowans.

Among the topics to be discussed are anti-transgender bathrooms, religious exemption laws, conversion therapy, hate crime inclusion, bullying prevention, sexual health, and developing student groups.

Guest speakers at the event include actress Lea DeLaria, who plays Big Boo on the Netflix series Orange is the New Black.

Today's conference starts at 8:30 a.m. at the downtown Embassy Suites.
