Target (WHO-HD)

More than half a million people have signed a petition pledging to boycott Target over its transgender bathroom and changing room policy.

Conservative organization American Family Association’s “Sign the Boycott Target Pledge” is petitioning against the company’s transgender bathroom policy.

Target announced last week its stance on transgender rights, saying the store will “welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity.”

AFA is arguing that Target’s policy encourages sexual predators, saying the policy is how sexual predators “get access to their victims.” The petition also states:

Target’s store policy endangers women and children by allowing men to frequent women’s facilities.

Until Target makes the safety of women and children a priority, I will shop elsewhere.

The boycott has more than 618,000 signatures as of Monday evening.

Target’s inclusivity policy is based on the federal Equality Act, which the company says provides protections to LGBT individuals and opposes action that enables discrimination.
