Teen Shot in Des Moines Alley is City’s Second Homicide This Year

DES MOINES, Iowa --  Des Moines police are investigating a homicide that happened in a Des Moines alley late Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of 12th Street just before 5 p.m. Wednesday on reports of a shooting.

Several callers told police they heard multiple gunshots and saw a person on the ground in the east alley.

Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek said a 17-year-old victim was shot in the torso. He was seriously injured and died at the hospital Wednesday evening.

Police said at the scene they believe there could have been as many as three shooters involved. Neighbors in the area say they heard about nine gunshots.

No arrests have been made.

Police expect to release more information Thursday.
