GENEVA, Iowa -- The Spring 2016 edition of the Geneva Market is happening this weekend just south of Hampton. The market is held in the spring and fall as a fundraiser for the Geneva Betterment Association.

“We have oodles and oodles of antiques, vintage junk, and handcrafted goodies, said Tonya Sanders, of the Geneva Betterment Association. “It’s a cozy feel."

The Geneva Market was started in the tiny town, but it has moved to Maynes Grove Park, south of Hampton, due to the rapid growth of the market.

The event raised money to restore the old Geneva School Gym. A few weeks back, vandals smashed out the few remaining good windows in the school.

“This set us back a bit, but we’re out to gain some ground,” said Sanders. “We’re here and we’re not stopping. We’ve just kind of had a step backward."

Geneva Market organizers say this sets back their plans to put a new roof on the gym this summer, but they remain determined to continue with plans to bring the old gym back to life.
