DES MOINES, Iowa -- Instead of celebrating the holiday, mothers of National Guard Members said goodbye.
Nearly 60 soldiers from the 185th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion are headed to the middle east.
The send-off ceremony took place at the Iowa National Guard's Des Moines airbase Sunday morning.
The unit will make a stop in Fort Hood, Texas for training before heading to Afghanistan. While there, their mission is to provide transportation, maintenance, and supplies to other units.
The deployment is expected to last about a year.
