NEWTON, Iowa -- A Newton man faces charges after his dog attacked a woman and her horse.

The incident happened in Union Cemetery last week.

Police say Ralph Grau was walking with his pit bull when it started lunging at and biting the horse, which caused the horse to kick off its rider, who was then also attacked by the dog.

Both the woman and horse are expected to be okay.

Grau is charged with violating the city's vicious dog ordinance.

The dog is being quarantined for 10 days.
