DES MOINES, Iowa -- Two Grand View University volleyball players are in good condition after they were hospitalized due to a crash in Des Moines on Saturday.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue.

The student-athletes, Pedro Cardoso and Felipe Noguiere, were heading eastbound on Grand Avenue when another car slammed into them.

Police say Austin Young was behind the wheel of the car that hit them. Witnesses told police Young was driving at an "excessive" speed at the time of the crash.

Des Moines firefighters say it left four people injured, and the impact of the crash sent one of the car's engines hundreds of feet away.

Officials said on Sunday night that Cardoso and Noguiere are in good condition after being taken to Mercy Medical Center.

The crash remains under investigation.
