WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — New information is being released about a series of crashes on Interstate 235  during the evening commute Tuesday.

The major backup started after one driver reportedly cut off another in heavy rain, just east of the Des Moines River. The driver then suddenly slowed down.

One person suffered a cut on her face, but no one else was injured.

Her vehicle, a Volkswagen Passat, ended up with another car resting on top of it between East 6th Street and the Des Moines River Bridge. The Passat was totaled.

The crash caused a major traffic backup and two other multi-vehicle crashes were reported.

None of the drivers have been charged.
