AMES, Iowa — For Kristin M. Roach, the love of tea had her marketing tea and herbs online far before she ever thought to sell them in a store.

“When you drink a cup of tea, you’re hydrating yourself. There’s often a lot of really healthy things in it: Vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants,” said Roach. “More and more studies are coming out showing that tea is related to helping people lose weight and all those kinds of things.

Roach only sold her tea online until she was challenged to try selling at the local farmers market. It went well, and customers asked where her store was. That’s when she decided to move her tea offline.

Her store, Little Woods Tea and Herb Store, opened in May on Main Street in downtown Ames.

“It’s kind of like a Pampered-Chef style party, where the hostess brings the food and the people. And then we’ll bring the products and teas for everybody to try,” said Andrea Mauton, of Little Woods Teas and Herbs. “I love meeting people I love getting to hear everybody’s stories and getting them to try our teas.”

The store’s grand opening is Friday during the Art Walk on Ames’ Main Street from 5-8 pm. You can visit the store at 136 Main Street or you can shop online.
