DES MOINES, Iowa - Jim Mowrer has won the Democratic nomination and will face Republican David Young in the U.S. House District 3 race this fall.

Mowrer defeated Mike Sherzan and Desmund Adams to win his party's nomination. Mowrer, who served in the National Guard and later worked for the Pentagon, unsuccessfully ran against Republican Steve King in U.S. House District 4 in 2014.

"This is about our country's future, I'm not willing to sit on the sidelines, this is a fight I'm willing to take up, and I will be a fighter for working Iowa families in the middle class to ensure that our best days do lie ahead," Mowrer said after his win.
