Monica Vernon to Face Rod Blum in U.S. House District 1 Race

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Democrat Monica Vernon, of Cedar Rapids, defeated Pat Murphy, of Dubuque, to win her party’s nomination for U.S. House District 1. Vernon will face incumbent Rod Blum in November’s general election.

Vernon lost to Murphy in the 2014 Democratic primary, Murphy eventually lost to Blum in November 2014.

“I am so honored to be the Democratic nominee for Iowa’s First Congressional District. Thank you so much for your belief and trust in me,” Vernon told supporters Tuesday night. “And very special thank you to Pat Murphy for a hard fought race and for his service to our state.”
