NEWTON, Iowa — It’s going to be a busy weekend for race fans in Iowa as the track in Newton plays host to a couple of big races.

For the first time at the Iowa Speedway, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and the NASCAR XFINITY Series are paired together during Wide Opening Weekend on June 18-19.

“No cup race. No Indy car race anywhere in the world. So, all eyes will be on Iowa. It will be an unprecedented level of entertainment this weekend,” said Jimmy Small, President of Iowa Motor Speedway.

Smalls expects to see the attendance number up from last year but with all the fans coming out they want to make sure conditions are safe for viewing.

“It’s going to be a hot couple of days,” said Small.

Temperatures are expected to reach the 90’s and officials are confident they have a strong plan in place.

”We want to make sure our fans stay hydrated. Make sure they bring plenty of sunscreen and beyond that we’ve got fans across the concourse that spray mist,” said Small. “If any fans get overheated, we’ve got a care center up in the concourse along with the cool down center. We’ve been through this before and we’ve had a really, really good success rate at keeping all of our fans cool, happy and safe.”
