Former State Senator Rich Olive Passes Away

STORY CITY, Iowa – Former Iowa State Senator Rich Olive died Monday following a year-long battle with cancer. Iowa Senate Democrats confirmed the news in a Facebook post.

The Story City Democrat was elected to the Iowa Senate in 2006. He was sworn into office in January 2007. During his term, Olive served on several committees including agriculture, commerce, economic growth, local government and served as the chairman of the Government Oversight Committee.

Olive lost a 2010 reelection bid to Republican Robert Bacon.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced. Olive was 66.
