BEVINGTON, Iowa — The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that happened on Interstate 35 Thursday.

The crash happened about 5:15 p.m. south of the metro near mile marker 58, between Exit 56 to Highway 92 and Exit 52 to County Road G 50.

Sgt. Nathan Ludwig says a vehicle heading southbound was rear-ended and pushed into the northbound lane. The vehicle was then struck by an oncoming semi.

The driver of the car was killed. The semi driver and the driver of the car that rear-ended the victim’s vehicle received minor injuries.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the crash. The interstate is under construction where the crash happened, and the roadway is shared with opposing traffic.

A detour was put in place on Highway 92 after the crash caused heavy congestion, but the crash was cleared about 8:40 p.m.

The name of the driver killed in the crash has not been released.
