Niang Drafted by the Indiana Pacers, Nader Heading to Boston
BROOKLYN, NY – Former Cyclone All-American Georges Niang vowed to prove doubters wrong and Thursday night at the NBA Draft he took 1 step closer to doing that.
Niang was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in the 2nd round of the NBA Draft with the 50th overall pick.
Niang averaged 21 points 6 rebounds for Iowa State as a Senior.
Niang’s former teammate Abdel Nader also got the call on Thursday night. Nader was selected with the 58th overall pick by the Boston Celtics. Nader averaged 13 points last season as a Senior in Ames.
Nader is the 37th former Cyclone to be drafted in the NBA. Iowa State has had 10 NBA draft picks since the Big 12 was formed in 1996-97, the third-best total in the league.
With Niang and Nader being drafted tonight, ISU head coach Steve Prohm has had four of his players selected in the NBA Draft in five seasons as a head coach.
